About Tom Schott
Expertise
I will deal with the major leagues only from 19th century to present. I`m good on baseball history, records, statistics, ballparks. Try to stick to on-the-field stuff. I`m not interested in personal off-the-field stuff like spouses, girl friends, drug habits, salaries, mascots, etc. If you already know the answer to the question, please don't ask it. I don't want to play "stump the expert."

Experience
I've written on the subject, and I have substantial library of resources.

Publications
Numerous encyclopedia, newspaper, magazine articles. One book, several book chapters.

Education/Credentials
Ph.D. in American history.

Awards and Honors
Bevy of writing awards.

Baseball Trivia (General) - MLB TEAM home run seasonal record

Expert: Tom Schott - 7/15/2007

Question
What TEAM holds the record for most home runs hit for the season? Which season?  {My husband thinks it might be the Reds during the late '50s early '60's.]

Answer
Sally,

Your husband is mistaken, if we're talking about the major league record. Here are the current record holders.

 AL - Seattle, 1997, 264 HRs
 NL - Houston, 2000, 249 HRs

These records are based on a 162-game season. However, if you want to consider the 154-game season, before expansion, the Cincinnati Reds of 1956 hold the major league record with 221. So let's give your husband partial credit.
