Baseball Trivia (General)/Night batting vs. day

Question
Hi--

A friend makes the point that old-time hitters had a big advantage because they didn't play night games.

The implication, of course, is that batting averages are lower in night games than in day games.

Are there stats to back this up or refute it?

Many thanks,

Steve

Answer
In 2004, MOST teams hit better in DAY games than at night, although there a few exceptions.

Examples:
Orioles: .290 Day; .277 Night
Cardinals: .281 Day; .277 Night
Marlins: .283 Day; .255 Night

But...
Yankees: .263 Day; .272 Night
Red Sox: .263 Day; .289 Night
