Baseball Trivia (General)/Player Birth States

Question
I'm not sure if I am just biased, but there seems to be an awful lot of baseball players from California. I know I graduated from a high school called Bishop Amat and just from when I was there there are 3 current and one no longer playing big leaguers. I was wondering if you knew the total percentage of players from California and/or the total percentage of American born players from California?

Thanks,
Kevin

Answer
Howdy-I know that California passed Pennsylvania (!) as the leading Major Leaguer producing state only within the last 25 or so years.  I do not know the California percentage, but you could try the Major league Baseball web site- they might be able to direct you to an answer.  If that fails, you could go through the Baseball Almanac team by team and tally it up.  Or, my best answer if you are a real fan, is that you should join SABR- I know that they would have someone who can answer that.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
