So if the ball was touched by a fielder while it was in the fair portion of the batter's box, then it would be a fair ball. If the ball was touched by a fielder while it was in the foul portion, it would be a foul ball.

QUESTION: How do you determine which part of the batter's box is FAIR territory?
Answer Hi Michael,
If you were to draw a line from the 3rd base foul line to the angled side of home plate, the line would go through the upper right hand corner of the rectangular batter's box.
If you drew another line from the first base line to the angled side of home plate, you'd draw a line through the upper left hand corner of the other batter's box. These small tips near home plate are the fair territory portions of the batter's boxes.
