Baseball Trivia (General) - ballpark capacities

Expert: Geoff - 3/15/2007

Question
Hey Geoff,

I have a couple more questions for you the first of which deals with the capacities of major league ball parks.  Is there a site that I could view that would list all of the ball parks and their capacities or would I need to do them all separately? I am curious about your Fenway Park. I noticed on one site that there is a different capacity for night games and day games. Why? Safety? Also a quick question about C C Sabathia - What does the C C stand for? Thank Geoff.

Answer
Hi Frank,

Nice to hear from you again.

I couldn't find one page that listed each park's capacity but this site:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance?sort=home_avg&year=2006&seasonType=2

makes it easy to find them one by one.  Just click the

Stadium Pages:  Select Team, Venue

and you'll get a drop down menu listing each one of them.

Here's another site with lots of information about ballparks:

http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/index.htm

And this might be the best site of all if you're interested in capacity changes over the years:

Dead center field at Fenway has a triangle area that is directly in the batter's line of vision.  During day games, no one is allowed to sit there.  (Although I seem to recall people sitting there so long as they wear these dark colored raincoat looking things.)  At night games the area is open for people to sit there.  That's why the capacity for day games is lower than for night games.

C. C. stands for "Carsten Charles"

Best Wishes,

Geoff
