Question
I used to live in Cincinnati and when I was way
younger we were at a ball game in the old Crosley
field and the Reds had a young pitcher named Gary
Nolan. I was telling the story of how he struck
struck out Willie Mays four and it might have
been five times in one game. Is there any way
you can tell if this ever happened
or am I just Imagining it.

Thanks
Carl

Answer
Carl,

You are not imagining things. It was four times that Willie fanned. Check this out:

» June 7, 1967: At Crosley Field, Reds P Gary Nolan strikes out 15 Giants, including Willie Mays four times. But he still loses, 4–3. Willie McCovey belts a 3-run homer in the 8th to tie the game, and reliever Bob Lee allows the last run to score to pin the loss on Nolan.
