Question
how do i get the answer to this problem -1+x=3

Answer
If you want to get the variable (x), by itself, you need to "undo" everything that has been done to it.  (-1+x) is the same as (x-1), so, 1 was subtracted from x, so you need to add 1 to both sides.  That gives you x-1+1 = 3+1 or x = 4.  Make sense?
