Question
3 children ages 2, 4, and 6.  what was their average age?

Answer
Hello,

The average is obtained in two steps:

1. Add up all the numbers
 i.e., 2+4+6=12
2. Divide this by the number of terms you have added
i.e., 12/3=4 is the average age.

You can combine these two steps into (2+4+6)/3 = 4

Example: If the age of four people are 4 8 10 14, what would the average be?

Answer: We add up the four numbers and divide it by four.
(4+8+10+14)/4 = 36/4 = 9. So, the average age is 9.
