What is the formula to work out a production variance percentage eg: Forecast 1500 Actual 1650 Variance is 150 what percentage would this be?
Would the same formula be used to work out profit and loss eg: Budget $150000.00 Actual $1650000.00 Variance $15000?
Answer Hello, Rebecca.
Since the actual amount is 1650 (150 above the forcasted amount), you need to divide 150 by 1500.
150/1500 equals .1, or 10 percent variance percentage.
Profit and loss can be measured either in percentage or numerically. If your budget is $150,000, and you actually make $1,650,000, then your profit is $1,500,000.
Your percentage increase is equal to 1,500,000/150,000, which equals 10, or 1000 percent!
