Question Hi, I tutor a 5th grader, and he doesn't understand unit conversion well. I'm only a high school sophomore, so its hard for me to give him an easy way for him to understand. Its more the blank quarts equals blank gallons. Could you help? Thank you so much. And I think its great your sharing the Gospel as you help people in math!
Answer Hello, Kelsey.
Let's say you want to know the number of quarts there are in 7 gallons.
You need to know that there are 4 quarts in a gallon. Then a ratio can be set up.
7 gallons x 4 quarts/1 gallon
Multiplying cancels out the gallons, leaving you with 28 quarts.
