Question
How do you compute this problem:

3 1/7 - 3/7 + 5/7 = ?

and

5 1/7 - 4/7 + 1 5/7 = ?

I do not know the steps to calculate this problem.  Thanks!

Answer
Easiest thing to do is the addition first and then you have enough 7ths in order to do the subtraction.

3 1/7  + 5/7 - 3/7 =
3 6/7 -3/7 = 3 3/7

and

5 1/7 + 1 5/7 - 4/7  =
6 6/7 - 4/7 = 6 2/7

The other way is to convert the mixed fractions to improper fractions.

3 1/7 - 3/7 + 5/7 =
22/7 - 3/7 + 5/7  = 24/7 = 3 3/7

5 1/7 - 4/7 + 1 5/7 =
36/7 - 4/7 + 12/7 = 44/7 = 6 2/7
