Question
I need to add 10% to $4.75 . Please show me a example step by step how to do it. Thanks so much.

Answer
$4.75 + 10%

First let's calculate 10%

10% of $4.75 = 4.75*0.10 = 0.475

So

$4.75 + $0.475 = $5.225

But we usually don't leave money with a fraction of a cent so this would round up to $5.23.

Another way to do this is just to do this multiplication:

$4.75*1.10 = $5.225

Producing the same result and again we have to round it up to $5.23.

Both ways are accurate but I think the first way is a little more intuitive.
