Question
find the equation of the line perpendicular to the line 2x-3/4y=6 and passing through the point(5,-2)

Answer
Perpendicular lines have opposite and inverse slopes.  Therefore, a line perpendicular to the line 2x-3/4y=6 would have a slope of -1/2.  Now that you have a slope, you can solve for the y intercept using the 2 points given.  The eq is y = mx + b.  You have y, m and x.
-2 = -1/2 (5) + b
-2 = -5/2 + b
1/2 = b  so the eq for a line perpendicular to 2x-3/4y=6 is

y = -1/2x + 1/2
