Basic Math - difficult question for me

Expert: Lynn Houston - 10/19/2009

Question
determine the slope intercept form of the linear equation if
passes through (7,2) and is parallel to the line (a)x=7 and (b)y=6

Answer
slope intercept is y = mx + b, where m = slope and b = y intercept.

A)  x = 7 is a vertical line and has no slope (so you cannot take the negative inverse) and will never intersect with the y axis, so the eq is simply x=7 (you're told that the line passes through (7,2).

b) y = 6 is a horizontal line and has a slope of zero and will never intersect with the x axis.  So, a line parallel to y = 6 would also have a zero slope.  The eq would be y = 2
