Question Hi, this is an extra credit problem that I really need to help imporve my grade. I am confused on what the questions are exactly asking me and what i should do. I tried a little bit but I dont know. Thanks!
Given: f(x)= 72x^2 -22x - 24
a.) Use the discriminate to verify that f(x) factors.
b.) Use the rest of the quadratic formula to find the roots of f(x) in lowest terms.
//This is what I did
22+- sqareroot {484-(4*72*-24)}/144
(22+- 86)/144
=.75
=.44
c.) Find two linear equations with integer coeffcients that the roots of f satisfy. Then write the non zero sides of each equation with parethsis next to each other, BUT DO NOT MULTIPLY OUT.
d.) Factor out a greatest common facor from f(x).
//Would this be.....2....sice 2 is the largest number that can go into each.
e.) Write the GCF from part (d) in front of the result from part (c). This is the factorization of f(x).
THANKS a lot for trying to help me. I really appreciate it!
Answer The discriminant is everything inside the square root. If this is positive, then it can be factored. If it is negative, then the solutions are not all real.
One of your solutions is wrong, it should be -4/9
c)
y = 4 x - 3
y = 9 x + 4
