Question
Roberto invested some money at 6%, and then invested $5000 mor than twice this amount at 10%.  Hist total annual income from the two investments was $4400.  HOw much was invested at 10%?

Answer
x = amt invested at 6%
y = amt invested at 10%

.06x + .1y = 4400 or 6x + 10y = 440000
2x + 5000 = y  use the value of y to solve the first equation

6x + 10(2x+5000) = 440000
6x + 20x + 50000 = 440000
26x = 390000
x = $15,000, therefore y = $35,000
