Question
express the following binary numbers in the decimal system.

(a) 11
(b) 101
(c) 11101
(d) 100011

Answer
We will look at (c) and discuss what it means.

The binary string 11101 represents from right to left:
1 x 2^0 plus
0 x 2^1 plus
1 x 2^2 plus
1 x 2^3 plus
1 x 2^4

This may be written as 16 + 8 + 4 + 0 + 1. So, "11101" is the binary representation of 29.
