Question
The area my son is struggling with is in the completion of the squares. Just need the basic rules. Thanks.

Answer
Dear Patrick,

This question may be answered in general using pure algebra. However, I am not sure how useful this will be to you. If you are interested in a mathematical derivation, please refer to [1] (scroll down to general description). This is the standard approach to understanding the connections between the various coefficients.

If you are looking instead for practical guidelines, I think the following website is quite useful.

Expertise

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.

Experience

I have worked as a teaching assistant in college. My hope is that more people will share knowledge without boundary, give help without seeking recognition or monetary rewards.
