Question
i am a dad trying to help my daughter with math homework and
she is starting to exceed my knowledge level. sad but true.
need help solving these problems so i can understand and help
her in the future.1 4x-2x+4=x+10
                 2 x+3x-x=xx+1

Answer
Hello Richard,

1. 4x-2x+4=x+10, we first combine "like terms"
.  i.e. 4x-2x=2x (4 x's minus 2 x's leaves us with 2 x's)
.  so we now have 2x+4=x+10, now we need to get the x's
.  on the same side of the equals sign, and the non-x's
.  on the other.  Subtract x from both sides (whatever is done
.  to one side of an equation must be done to the other in order
.  to preserve the equality) to get: x+4=10
.  Now subtract 4 form both sides: x=6...you can check by
.  substituting x=6 back into the original equation.

2. What is on the right-hand-side?  "xx"???
