Question
jake spent 3/5 of his allowance on snacks, 1/4 of the remainder on stickers and saved the rest which was $12.00. (a) what fraction did he save (b) how much money did he have at first.

Answer
let x = Jake's allowance

3/5x = snacks
1/4x = stickers

3/5x + 1/4x + 12 = x
12/20x + 5/20x + 12 = x
17/20x + 12 = x
12 = x - 17/20x
12 = 3/20x
x = 240/3
x = 80

So, Jake's allowance is $80
12/80 = 3/20 = amt saved

3/5(80) = 48 on snacks
1/4(80) = 20 on stickers
