Question
ronald and elan are working on an assignment. ronald takes 6 hours to type 32 pages on a computer while elan takes 5 hours to type 40 pages. how much time will they take, working together on two different computers to type an assignment of 110 pages?

Answer
Ronald works at a rate of 32 pages per 6 hrs ==> 32/6 pages/hr = 16/3 pages/hr
Elan works at a rate of 40 pages per 5 hrs ==> 40/5 pages/hr = 8 pages/hr

Together, they work at a rate of 16/3 + 8 pages/hr = 40/3 pages/hr

Let t=the time required for them to complete 110 pages.
Thus, (40/3)t=110...solving for t gives: t=110/(40/3) hrs = 330/40 hrs
or 8.25 hrs = 8 hrs 15 minutes.
