Question
-1/2k=3/4k-3

Answer
Wendell,

in the term 3/4k-3, there are no parentheses. Hence division will get priority over subtraction. Hence this equation an be read as:

-1/2k = (3/4k)-3

Now let us solve this.

-1/2k = (3/4k)-3
-1 = 6k/4k-6k
-1 = 3/2 - 6k
-1-(3/2) = -6k
-5/2 = -6k
5/2 = 6k
5/12 = k

that is k = 5/12

I hope this is clear now. Kindly let me know if you need additional information.
