Question
Hello:

If an automobile can travel 50 miles in one hour (60 minutes), how long will the same automobile travel at 80 miles per hour?

How was the following solution determined to solve for the answer?

60 minutes X (50 miles/ 80 miles) = 37.5 minutes

I thank you for your reply.

Answer
Hello Kenneth,

I gather the question should be:
"How long will it take to travel the SAME DISTANCE at 80 MPH?"  Yes?

If so, then...
S=since dist = rate x time, we get 50 miles = (80 miles/hr) x time
so, time = 50/80 hr = 5/8 hr = 0.625 hr = 37.5 minutes

So, yes...your calculation is correct.
