Question
QUESTION: Who in your opinion is comparable to Carl Friedrich Gauss, as a Mathematician rather than as a Physicist, or Astronomer.

ANSWER: Hello Megan,

Comparable in what way?  Contributions to mathematics in general?

TTYL, Abe

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Yes, comparable as in his contributions. In addition to comparing his impact on American culture to another person.

Answer
Hello Megan,

Certainly Leonard Euler has to be considered as one of the greatest mathematicians of
all time (if not THE greatest).

Impact on American culture?  That is avery different issue then...I am not sure that
any mathematician has had a significant impact on American culture...perhaps it would
John von Neumann (Hungarian-American mathematician), since his work pioneered computer
science - and of course computer science has had a huge impact on American (and world)
culture.

I hope this helps.
