Hello, I'm trying to help my lil sister complete her math homework but i am stuck on one question and i honestly have no idea i hope you can help.

34 1/6 = x + 6 1/4 + 12 3/8?

Hello, Cherie.

34 1/6 = x + 6 1/4 + 12 3/8

Step 1: Add 6 1/4 and 12 3/8. First, convert the mixed numbers to improper fractions. 6 1/4 = 25/4 (6x4=24; 24+1=25). 12 3/8 = 99/8 (12x8=96; 96+3=99).

Result: 34 1/6 = x + 25/4 + 99/8.

Step 2: Combine the fractions on the right side of the equation.

Result: 34 1/6 = x + 149/8. (50/8 + 99/8 = 149/8.)

Step 3: Convert 34 1/6 to an improper fraction.

Result: 205/6 = x + 149/8.

Step 4: Subtract 149/8 from both sides of the equation.

Result: x = 746/48 (205/6 - 149/8 is the same as 1640/48 - 894/48).

Step 5: Reduce the fraction.

Result: x = 373/24 (746/2 = 373; 48/2 = 24).

Answer: x = 373/24, or x = 15 13/24.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

John
