Question
Three soccer teams A,B and C played against each other. A game could be won, tied or lost depending on the number of scored and yielded goals. On the answer sheet there is a summary of the results of the games but some of the results are missing. Based on the given infomation, you have to deduct the missing results.

Grading will be donw as follows:
4-6 boxes filled in correctly: 1 point
7-9 boxes filled in correctly: 2 points
10 boxes filled in correctly: 3 points

Answer
I don't have all the information needed to give you a definitive answer. But you should approach the problem like this.

Work out how many points are awarded for a victory, a draw and a tie. Find out how the number of scored and yield goals affect the ranking. Use the inverse relationships to your advantage when you study the result matrix (competition table). If team A beats team B by 3-2, then the score for team B versus team A is obviously going to be 2-3 (a loss, perhaps with a one point deficit or something).

Depending on how the summary of results is presented, you may need to set up some equations and solve for the unknowns. I can't be any more precise than that not knowing how the scoring is done and what information is actually presented.

Expertise

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.

Experience

I have worked as a teaching assistant in college. My hope is that more people will share knowledge without boundary, give help without seeking recognition or monetary rewards.
