Question
Hello Professor Mantell and thanks for being here to provide this service. I am a 50 year young person having recently been accepted into a nursing program at my local commmunity college. Although I've worked in the medical health insurance industry for 26 years, I don't remember the basics of fractions, percentiles and basic algebra. Could you provide me with the formulas for determining the answers for the above problems? I can't even remember the basics,,as humiliating as it is,,thank goodness for this site. Any help you can offer me is greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance,,,,,,Deb

Answer
Hello Deb,

Well, what you ask is rather a tall order!
Math is not about formulas, it is about understanding!

Sure, the use of formulas helps get (correct) answers,
but you need to understand them to make the most out
of them!

Let me suggest the following web-sites for you to
help you learn what you'd like:
http://mathforum.org/
http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/sets/mid_fractions.html
http://www.aaamath.com/fra.html
http://www.321know.com/pct.htm
http://www.321know.com/alg.htm
http://www.sosmath.com/algebra/algebra.html

If you have any questions after checking (and trying on
your own) these sites, please do let me know!

Good luck to you!!!

BTW: May I know which community college?

TTYL,
Abe
