Question
In what ratio two varieties of fruit juice costing Rs 8 and Rs 9 per litre respectively mixed , so that the mixture costs Rs 8.30 per litre?

Answer
This is a classic problem.

The requirement is 8x+9y=8.3(x+y)....[#1]
Here, x and y represent the volume of the first and second fruit juice, respectively.

We can simplify this further by insisting that this combination gives one unit volume. We express this as x+y=1. Of course, we can rearrange this as y=1-x. Putting this into [#1], we get

8x+9(1-x)=8.3

You solve for x, then solve for y to find the answer.
Of course, we expect 0<x<1 and 0<y<1.
