Question
Hi Josh . Can you tell me how to find the ratio of any number ? I,m sure theres a formula but I don,t know it . Keep in mind your talking to a idiot so plese keep it simple . Thanks . Bob

Answer
Hi Bob,

The ratio between two numbers (say, "A" and "B") is given by A:B (the quantity "A" divided by the quantity "B").

For instance, if we are mixing 3 parts alcohol with 17 parts of water, we can express this proportion as 3:17.

The alcohol content of this beverage is 3 parts in 20 (from 3+17).

To convert this into a percentage, simply divide 3 by 20. This tells us the fraction of the total volume that consists of alcohol, which turns out to be 15%.

Cheers.

Note: The ratio of 3:17 can be turned around to 17:3. It is just a matter of perspective. Observe that 3/17 is the inverse of 17/3.

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.

Experience

I have worked as a teaching assistant in college. My hope is that more people will share knowledge without boundary, give help without seeking recognition or monetary rewards.
