Question
A Man rode his bike 300 miles. Three tires were used equally in the trip. How many miles of travel did each tire endure?

Answer
Let the miles of travel for the three tires be x, y, and z, respectively.

They have to add up to 300 [miles].
This means x+y+z=300.

We have also been told that the tires all lasted the same duration in time. So, x=y=z. Putting this back into the first equation, we have x+y+z=3x=300. x=300/3=100.

Interpretation: Each tire lasted 100 miles.

Expertise

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.

Experience

I have worked as a teaching assistant in college. My hope is that more people will share knowledge without boundary, give help without seeking recognition or monetary rewards.
