Question
Hi, if sum is the word used to describe the answer of addition, and product is the word for the answer of a multiplication problem, what is the word used for the answer to a division problem?

Answer
Good question Dave! Let's look at an example.

Suppose we consider 13/3. Obviously, 13 = 3*4+1. The number playing the role of 13 is called the "dividend", 3 is the "divisor", the answer you are looking for (the 4) is called the "quotient", and 1 is the "remainder".

Cheers:)

Expertise

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.

Experience

I have worked as a teaching assistant in college. My hope is that more people will share knowledge without boundary, give help without seeking recognition or monetary rewards.
