Question
3(4x-3)+16=7x+17

Answer
Hi Stacy,

Sorry about the delay. I didn't realize that questions got through on the Dec 11, when I was supposed to be away.

In this question, we solve for the unknown quantity, x.
First, expand the left hand side (LHS) of the equation.
3(4x-3)+16=7x+17
12x-9+16=7x+17 ...simplify expression by collecting like terms
12x+7=7x+17 ...separating the known from the unknown (i.e., subtract 7 from both sides, subtract 7x from both sides)
12x-7x=17-7
5x=10
x=2

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.

Experience

I have worked as a teaching assistant in college. My hope is that more people will share knowledge without boundary, give help without seeking recognition or monetary rewards.
