Question
the directions of her homework are to write the equivalent decimal for the fraction. for exapmple 18/25. we need an explanation of how to get the answer. thanks

Answer
Hello Shari,

18/25 is the same as eighteen lots of "one twenty-fifth".
18/25=18*(1/25)...[#1]

Now, 1/25 is represented by 0.04 in decimal.
To see this, we can multiply both the numerator and denominator in the fraction "1/25" by 4, without changing the size of this quantity.
That is, 1/25= (1*4)/(25*4)=4/100 which is equivalent to 0.04.

Finally, continuing from [#1], 18*(1/25)=18*0.04=0.72
or 72%.

Cheers.
