Question
how do you write an expression for total salary for h hours of work if he is paid 8.25 per hour?
how do you write the correct translation for the quotient of 76.2 divided by an x?
how do you write an expression for the difference between 7.4 and a number x?

Answer
Hello Tatiana,

For part 1:
The total salary (S) is given by the product of "salary rate" (R) and the "duration of that work" (T).
Here, salary rate R=8.25 [dollars/hour], duration T=h[hour].

The required expression is S=R*T, or S=8.25h.

For part 2:
Consider dividing 29 by 3. We get 29=3*9+2
Understand what the following terms mean.

"Dividend" is the number being divided (29 in this example)
"Divisor" is the number doing the dividing (3 here)
"Quotient" is the number of times the divisor goes into the dividend (9 here, because 9*3=27)
"Remainder" is 3 in this example.

Accordingly, the quotient is <76.2/x>, where <a> means round the number "a" down to the nearest integer.

For part 3:
7.4-x

Expertise

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.

Experience

I have worked as a teaching assistant in college. My hope is that more people will share knowledge without boundary, give help without seeking recognition or monetary rewards.
