Question
How do I set up the equation of (-8,7) with a slope of 6? I was helping my son and I just can't quite remember.
Y=?mb+7....?

Answer
Hello Belinda,

What you seek is the equation of a linear function...

Two popular ways:
1. y=mx+b, where m=slope, b=y-intercept.
- so, y=6x+b, now substitute (-8,7) and solve for 'b'
- 7=6(-8)+b ==> b=7+48=55...y=6x+55
OR
2. y-y1=m(x-x1), where m=6 with point(x1,y1)
- so, y-7=6(x-(-8)) ==> y-7=6(x+8) ==> y=6x+48+7
- which also gives y=6x+55

OK?
