Question
what is 3/4 of 4/9 kilogram

Answer
Linda,

Fractions tell us the proportions.
To find three-quarters of X, we multiply X by (3/4).
Here X equals 4/9. So, multiply (4/9) by (3/4).

(3/4)*(4/9)=(3/9) because the "4" in the numerator of the second fraction,(4/9), cancels with the "4" in the denominator of the first fraction, (3/4).

You can then simplify 3/9, because both the numerator (top bit) and denominator (bottom bit) are divisible by 3.
Again, (3/9)=(3*1)/(3*3)=1/3. As the common factor cancels.

In summary,
(3/4)*(4/9)
=(3/9)
=(1/3)
