Question
marys pace maesures 35 cm.  If she walks 2,000 paces, how many meters did she walk

Answer
Hi Lexie

This problem is about multiplication and unit conversion. We should first of all convert centimeter to meter, since this is what the question asks for in the end.

Recall that 100 cm = 1 m. Dividing both sides by 100, we get 1 cm = 1/100 m. Accordingly, 35 cm = 35/100 m. We can write this fraction "35/100" as 0.35 meter.

If one pace measures 0.35 m, then 2000 paces would cover 2000 x 0.35 m. So, the answer is 700 meters.

When I work through problems, I like to emphasize concepts which I believe are worth noting. I will try to answer questions in the following areas, but not at the advanced level. Algebra. Sequences & Series. Trigonometry. Functions & Graphs. Coordinate Geometry. Quadratic Polynomials. Exponential & Logarithms. Basic Calculus. Probability, Permutation and Combination. Mathematical Induction. Complex numbers. Physics problems.
