could you tell me if 0.217 is the same as 217,000 when wrote out.

Hi Amanda,

The two numbers, even though both contain the digits "2", "1" and "7", are actually different by orders of magnitude.

0.217 is 217/1000 (two hundred and seventeen parts in a thousand is definitely less than one); whereas 217,000 (read two hundred and seventeen thousand) is 1000000 (a million) times larger than the former.
