Question
Abe,
Thanks for your answer. What concerned me was the wording "Women paid just $5" with no mention of ticket.Am I being too picky?

Abe,
This looks as if it should be easy but the compiler is of a devious nature! Could be in the wording.

A firm of 200 organised a cocktail party one weekend. Men paid $10 for a ticket (on the assumption they would drink more) while women paid just $5.
If exactly half of the men and all of the women attended the event, what was the total bill?

Thank you
Answer -
Hello Bill,

Let x=# of men in the organization,
then 200-x= the number of women.

The total bill would be $10(x/2)+$5(200-x),
which is $5x+$1000-$5x=$1000

OK?

Abe

Answer
Hello Bill,

Yes, you are being too picky...it is implied that
the tickets for women are $5 EACH.

What makes the problem interesting is that it seems
there is not enough info...like we'd need to know
how many men or women there are...but you see the
way it works out...it does not matter how many
men or women there are, the total is always $1000!!!
