Question
can you help to teach me to subtract a fraction on my homework, or just to refresh my memory of it,

    thanks, callen
p.s. heres the fraction, 5 - (2/3times3/7) =?
please help,(got a test on it on monday, thanks again bye)

Answer
Hi Callen,

5-(2/3)*(3/7)
=5-(2*3)/(3*7) ...cancel out common factor, the 3 that is.
=5-(2/7) ...then, put everything over a common denominator

The idea is to express 5 as x/7.
we do this by multiplying 5 by 7/7.
you get 5 equivalent to (5*7)/7 OR 35/7

So, the last line
=(35/7)-(2/7)
=(35-2)/7
=33/7

Cheers.
