Question
I love basketball, so I've thought becoming basketball manager or scout, I don't think agent position is for me. But I don't know how should I start. I've e-mailed to some managers and agencies, but never got an answer to my questions. Of course it is necessary to go to university too. Is sports management the best thing to learn there to become what i want or not? I saw also a SMWW (sports management worldwide) webpage and they offer some online courses but these are only like 2 weeks or so. Maybe You know something about this SMWW too, is it really so good or not?

Answer
Hi Asko,

I really don't know too much about becoming a scout. The best thing to do is maybe contact your local professional basketball team in your area and speak to their front office. Maybe even put them in contact with one of their scouts, and ask them the route you should take. I don't know anythin about SMWW, I'm sorry. I wish I had more information for you on that. Sports management would be a good major for you in school. In order to become an agent, you have to go to law school and pass the bar exam. Agents are basically lawyers that specialize in sports contracts. Good Luck.
