Question
QUESTION: what is the 3 second lane and also how many minutes is allowed to bring the ball past mid court

ANSWER: Hi Arbee,

The three second lane is simply the Key. If your team has the ball, then none of the players on your team can stand in the key for more than three consecutive seconds or it is a 3 second violation.

After a team in-bounds the ball, they have 10 seconds to get it past the mid court line. Some leagues it's 8 seconds, but most of the time it's 10. I hope that helps.

QUESTION: If the guard has the ball and dribbles the ball past the mid court line and two defenders trap him as he pass the line and the guard cant pass the ball away from the defenders is a call made against the the guard for being trap and not able to pass the ball away

Answer
If the guard dribbles the ball, and the ball and both feet cross the mid court line, he now has front court status. If he is trapped and can't move, a 5 second "closely guarded" violation maybe called. If the defenders are within 6 feet of him, he may dribble the ball for 4 seconds and then pick his dribble up for 4 seconds, and then be guarded for another 4 seconds before the 5 second violation maybe called. I hope that helps.
