Question
Hey Coach:  I coach a select team of 7th grade girls and I have become extremely frustrated with our passing turnovers.  It's not uncommon for us to have 30 turnovers in a game and the majority reside with our guards and forwards.  Are there any specific passing drills that would decrease our turnovers, seems like I have tried them all?  I am at my wits end trying to figure out what to do. Thanks for your help

Answer
HI Jay,

One thing that girls that age tend to do is make "long Passes" They look for the fast break every time they get a rebound, and look for a quick basket. Normally this is good, but girls that age, lack the strength to make good accurate long passes. I would practice having your guards dribble around and make hard short passes. But I officiate many girls games at the level, and there are always many turnovers for all ages. Make sure during practice you work on their passes hitting the players in the chest. And, using two hands when making the passes. It's tough, unless some of the girls are overly talented for their age.
