Question
Hi
I have a problem at hand. I am currently trying out for the basketball team. I am in grade 11 (i missed the announcements the first year; didn't try out the second year). I am pretty sure I am the shortest guy out of everyone there, that includes people new to the tryouts, and people who are back on the team (players picked out from last yr's roster). Because of my height, which is 5'7. But compared to the rest of the ppl on the team, i am really undersized. The question is, because of my height, if i made the team, i would be a PG. But, i have a lack of experience playing that position, and have experience playing the off guard position instead. The reason for my experience in the 2, is because when i play at the ball park near where I live, almost always there is someone else playing the point, which moves me to the 2. I don't have REALLY good vision, but okay vision i guess... I read screens really well, and I always look to set the screens for my teammates. I also move very well w/o the basketball because I am really quick and great athletically. So what is your opinion on this? The point or off guard for me?   Thanks.

Answer
Hi Nicholas,

I think you need to try out for the position you feel more comfortable with. I would also consult the coach on this and talk to him. Explain to him what you explained to me. Varsity point guards have to be really good. So do what comes naturally.
