Question
If the player with the ball shoots and misses rim and
backboard, and he runs to the other side and catches the
ball, is that a legal play?

Answer
HI Angel,

The answer to your question is YES it is a legal play. The rule is as long as it's a legitimate shot attempt, the player that shot the ball may catch their own ball even if it's an "Air Ball". This rule applies in all leagues except for the NBA.
