Basketball Instruction/Possession Arrow

Question
We are playing in a city rec league that uses NCAA rules. The possession arrow was on the Team A side. A jump ball was called and Team A was granted the ball for an in-bound pass. The player stepped on the line prior to releasing the ball and the referee gave the ball to Team B due to the violation on the throw-in and he kept the possession arrow in favor of Team A. The Team B coach argued the possession arrow should have changed to Team B. What constitutes "possession" change and was this the correct call?

Answer
Sammy,

the reason why the possession Arrow never changed was because the ball was never in-bounded. Team B was awarded the ball by way of a Violation. The arrow only changes possession after being legally in-bounded. The call is correct. I hope that helps.
