Question
For about 3 years now there have been a lot of comments on my jumpshot footing...saying that I travel when I take my steps.... and today it got worse becuz the guys I play with officialy started calling it almost everytime I shot the ball...in official games I probably only got called for it maybe once every two games but not all the time...I can't show you how I shoot..so my question is, can you take two steps after picking up the drible and take a jump shot..they all say no but I think their stupid and could you please give me any more specific details about it?  Thank you

Answer
Kevin,

The answer to your question is yes, you can take two steps just like when you pick up your dribble to make a lay-up. The reason it gets called as a traveling sometimes, is because it looks weird and unusual and most players don't do that. If an official calls traveling it just means they really don't understand the rule and it DOES look like your traveling. Most Rec league officials will make that call. You will get called for it sometimes and sometimes not. As far as pick up games, let them know officially, you CAN take 2 steps.
