Question
I am 22 years old and about to begin practice with a 5 and 6 year old basketball team in a few days. What drills should they do? How do I keep practice fun?

Answer
Hi Sara,

You have your hands full with that age! Do they really have a league for 5 and 6 years old? You need to keep it simple as possible. Don't make drills last longer then a few minutes as there attention span is very limited. I would teach them the very basics and the rules of the game. I have a good site for the fundamentals of basketball back at my office. I am on the road at a basketball tournament right now so I don't have the sites address with me. When I get back on Monday I will send you the site address. Until then try and teach them how to dribble, pass, and jump-stop. That will keep you busy, trust me! You did touch on a key point, keep practice fun!
