whats the key to a good cross over move?

thanks alot

Answer
Hi Alex,

Well you have to kinds of cross-overs. One is the show lind you see on the "The And One Tapes" and then the practical one you would use in a game. The first is more for show as they say on the street. "break his ankles". The second one is used to change directions when bringing the ball up the court or to make a move tao the basket. Both cross-overs do have something in common and that is you must get the defender to "bite" on you going one direction. In other words you have to make the defender believe you want to go right so he defends this and then you cross-over going left. When crossing over you dont w ant to expose the ball so keep it tight to your body right in front of you. Keep the dribble low and it's a quick power-dribble when performing the cross-over. Example; IF I were dribbling and going right I would be protecting the ball with my body and off arm(left arm) so the defender can't still it, when I get him to committ to stopping me from going right I stop to cross-over using a power-dribble close to my body and then going left I protect the ball going left with my body and off arm(right arm). Some coaches even teach to take a step back when crossing over so you dont get the ball stolen when you cross the dribble over. I hope this helps ad remember dont make a move just to make one, make a move to accomplish a task. Good luck!
