Question
For some reason I am remembering when the NBA was born there were 11 teams now still remaining.  Which teams are they? (i.e. not the 'new' expansion teams)

Answer
I'm not sure what you mean. The National Basketball Association exists under that name since the 1949-50 season, when NBL and BAA merged. It had 17 teams, 8 of which are still in existence:

Rochester Royals (now Sacramento Kings)
Minneapolis Lakers (now Los Angeles Lakers)
Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons (now Detroit Pistons)
Syracuse Nationals (now Philadelphia 76ers)
New York Knickerbockers
Philadelphia Warriors (now Golden State Warriors)
Boston Celtics
Tri-Cities Blackhawks (now Atlanta Hawks)

The rest of the teams, now defunct:

Sheboygan Redskins
Waterloo Hawks
Denver Nuggets (folded in 1950)
Chicago Stags
St. Louis Bombers
Washington Capitols (folded in 1950)
Baltimore Bullets (folded in 1953)
Indianapolis Olympians
Anderson Duffey Packers

The NBA counts BAA as its predecessor. The BAA started in 1946-47, and New York Knickerbockers, Philadelphia Warriors and Boston Celtics played in it.

So, there are 3 teams that were members of BAA/NBA since the "dawn of time", and another 5 which are in since the 1949 merger. I don't know which 3 remaining teams you had in mind...

You should have asked me 5 years ago. I was a real nut back then... :)
